Daytime possum sightings

Possums are a nocturnal species so if you do see one foraging in daylight, the possum is likely to be unwell or injured.

Over the past few months there have been a few unwell possums reported to us requiring humane dispatch. Some have been seen having difficulty climbing and in poor condition. There are a few bacterial and viral diseases that affect possums, some which can affect pets, livestock and humans. Possums can get wobbly possum, bovine tuberculosis, leptospirosis/giardia and coccoidosis.

If you encounter a possum during the daytime, please note the location of the animal and notify us so the team can locate it and provide humane dispatch.
