Lights out for possums in Halfway Bush

Backyard trapper, Lloyd Cron and his amazing Christmas light display.

We love hearing great stories from our backyard trappers! Lloyd Cron is one of City Sanctuary’s newest backyard trappers who is providing us with help at Halfway Bush. We asked Lloyd to share what got him interested in backyard trapping.  Lloyd writes:

"We purchased our 8 acres of native bush in 2002, cleared a space in the bottom corner and built our house.

The first night we moved in our peace was interrupted by a possum... from that point it became obvious we had a serious problem. A friend of ours who traps possums for skins set up traps around our property and in 6 months, removed approx. 40 possums. The return of the small plants & shoots was amazing to see.

Once our property was developed, we started to install Christmas lights for our children. This grew into a 15-year project open to the public, of which many thousands have enjoyed them.

When I was contacted by Kai from City Sanctuary about setting traps on our property, I thought this would be a great opportunity to reduce our possum population again. After 3 weeks, we have caught 10 possums. Love using the app as it keeps a record of all activities."

Thanks Lloyd, keep up the fantastic work!
